I've read entries on the big list about suggestions to add mountains, lake and terrain in general. I'm not to fond of this idea which would change the game too dramatically IMO.
BUT perhaps including some of the most important rivers to our maps could be definitely fun and add a bit of strategy. It would also make it easier to distribute resources, since a landlocked country would still be able to build a harbour to increase production.
My suggestion would be perhaps to raise the bonus given from 25% to 33%, like a factory level 4, keeping embarking/disembarking advantages, but with no shipyard capabilities, so obviously no battleships on the Danube.
I think probably just one or two rivers per map would be enough: Danube for Europe, Yangtze for Asia, Nile for Africa, Amazon for South America...
